Homemade, Natural Mold & Mildew Remedy

As we all know the rain and general humidity around Australia has been quite intense as of late. We are extremely lucky to be only dealing with a few leaks here and there in our studio. We know so many across NSW and Queensland are dealing with much worse and our thoughts are with you all. 🤍

As we learn to cope with the rain, we are learning how to cope with the many issues it has brought with it… mold and mildew being two of our least favourites. We immediately took to researching safe, organic and natural ways to eliminate the new mold in the nooks and crannies of our design studio, warehouse and home.

Our favourite option: fresh tea tree oil and filtered water. This is so easy to make up and all you need is organic tea tree oil, fresh water and a spray bottle of some sort.

The best part, you can spray and leave as a preventative effort as this wet seems to be staying for the foreseeable future…

Homemade Mold & Mildew Solution

Combine one teaspoon of tea tree oil with one cup of filtered water
Shake the mixture until blended
Spray on moldy areas and wipe clean with a cloth
As a preventative measure, spray to tiles, grout and other surfaces and leave to air dry

Tea tree oil is an age old remedy that Aboriginal people across Australia have been using for centuries. The oil is known to be a natural fungicide, antiseptic and antibacterial agent. Capable of killing black mold and an eco-friendly replacement to bleach and other chemical based mold removers - this recipe has our vote.

You can purchase tea tree oil at your local pharmacy or online through a local farm or oil shop.
