The Journey of Creative Genius, Peach of Peacharoo Co. Ceramics

The Journey of Creative Genius, Peach of Peacharoo Co. Ceramics

We reached out to Fabrik customer and creative genius, Therese Petre - or Peach which is what she goes by, to see if we could visit her studio and learn a little more about her bespoke ceramic brand, Peacharoo Co.

Our timing was planned for an hour of shooting and a brief interview, however we ended up spending 2 and a half hours chatting, grabbing coffee and immersing ourselves in the creamy, pastel hues of Peach’s Helensburgh based studio.

Driving up through the windy rainforest roads of Stanwell Park, we can see where Peach finds inspiration everyday.

Our first question we had to ask was: how long had she been doing pottery creation and art? Her answer, Peacharoo Co. has been around for only 5 years… being shocked, we had to know what the journey had looked like to lead her here.

Peach attended TAFE after school to study art, this included sculpture, painting and other skills you would expect to learn in art school. Her teachers were passionate artists, but gave the students the skeptical statistics that only 2% of them would make it as artists. After hearing this, Peach decided to continue her education in graphic design at university, knowing this would guarantee success and a decent salary.

While in school, she worked part-time at the Body Shop. While there she must have wow’d them with her bright personality, attention to detail and artistic flair - because she was offered a job as a Manager and eventually worked her way up to Art Director for the Body Shop brand. This career path took her around the world to places like San Francisco and London.

When Peach made her way back to Australia, she moved into the advertising space. She worked for big name agencies like Saatchi & Saatchi. She explained to us that her career in advertising was fast-paced and involved working late, weekends, late night events and was extremely competitive among the team.

Having had 2 little ones, she knew this lifestyle was too much as she wished to transition into a slower pace of life. Which ,lucky for us, is when Peach decided to start teaching pottery right here in the Illawarra.

While teaching her pottery, her passion for creating her own art was re-lit. She started creating mugs and other small pieces that cafes, friends and sometimes even strangers wanted to buy.

Our founder here at Fabrik, Sarah Hardie, actually commissioned an artwork piece off of Peach very early on. She saw a piece being framed at a local shop, and fell in love. She commissioned a piece from the artist, which just so happened to be the beautiful, Peach.

It’s a small world.

Fast forward 5 years and Peach has been selling her ceramic pieces to cafes, boutiques around Australia and has her very own studio and storefront in the creative up and coming Helensbhurg neighborhood. If you’re a South Coast or Sydney local, we cannot recommend a visit here enough - be prepared you will probably leave with 3-4 mugs…

Peach is wearing our Tavi Pinafore in Denim paired with our Healani Smock Top in Vellum.

Her thoughts…

“Fabrik’s pieces fit my “tradie” lifestyle… as a potter I need clothes that don’t stain and I can wear again & again”

She also mentioned the features of our pockets in the majority of our collections… “they are great! I can fit my phone & ceramic tools while I’m creating in the studio”

As a brand that wants to make outfit repeating the new norm, we love hearing that our pieces can be used both for working in a  pottery studio and transition seamlessly to a glass of wine and dinner out.
